1987 yilinda Sydney’de kurulan The Necks, kurulduklarından bu yana kadrolarını sabit tutmuş nadir gruplardan. Founded in Sydney in 1987, The Necks are one of the few groups that have kept their lineup unchanged since their inception. The group consists of Chris Abrahams on piano, Hammond organ, and organ; Lloyd Swanton on double bass and bass guitar; and Tony Buck on drums and percussion. The Necks create improvisational works that are reimagined on stage each time, transcending time. They offer their audience an impressive blend of avant-garde jazz, minimalism, ambient, and free improvisation; they are known for their improvisations built on long, hypnotic, minimal motifs.
When you see The Necks live on stage, the first thing that catches your attention is the trio’s absolute concentration. You can see how the energy that emerges from the new sounds they extract from the moment they are in, like a group of hard-working bees, creates emotional satisfaction in the audience. As one section continues, Abrahams slowly shifts the focus to another direction, and you find yourself gliding toward a new horizon. After a while, the repetitions begin to induce a hypnotic state of bliss. Imagine watching a machine performing the same task over and over again in a hypnotized state—the repetitions in the music create exactly that effect in your mind.
In recent years, listeners have been constantly seeking new experiences that capture the spirit of the times. Over the past 35 years, they have developed a style of music that takes listeners on sonic journeys with their improvisational analyses, which unfold slowly or in concentric circles, and with sound layers that sometimes repeat and sometimes progress from the superficial to the profound. Having recorded a total of 5 live albums and 17 studio albums, The Necks will be performing at Salon IKSV on the evening of November 9. The concert promises to be one of the most significant adventures of the year for improvisational music enthusiasts.
